What a family office does
A family office is a private office that serves one family. It brings the family's companies, property, planning and giving into one place, under one set of rules, so that nothing important depends on memory or on one person.
In practice it coordinates the work of outside professionals: lawyers, accountants, tax and insurance advisors. It keeps one controlling copy of every core document. It plans for the estate and for succession. It is quiet by design.
The Maxwell enterprises are arranged in two sides. An S corporation practice delivers care as Maxwell Health Systems. A C corporation, MaxGen Holdings, Inc., holds the real estate, housing and ventures where care is delivered. The iMax Group LLC provides management support to both. Each entity operates independently within its scope. See the structure.
Why it is not a foundation
A foundation is one tool a family can use for giving. A family office is the wider structure around everything the family holds. Our family's giving is described on the Philanthropy page. Harmony Health of Delaware, a nonprofit we support, is independent and governed by its own board.
How decisions are made
Dr. Max, as President and CEO, sets direction, decides and signs. Michael and Marc Maxwell, as Vice Presidents and COOs, run operations and prepare decisions. Important decisions are written down with an owner and a date.
Each company keeps its own books, accounts and records. Nothing is signed, sent, paid or filed on the family's behalf without the right person's approval.
Continuity
Who may approve what is written down, and every key role has a named backup. Formation documents, licenses and renewals are tracked for every company. Estate and succession matters are handled with licensed professionals and kept private.
The next generation
The office exists to hand things on in good order. That means teaching each generation how the companies work, how decisions are made, and what the family expects of itself, well before anyone needs to take a seat.
Privacy
This site shows the shape of the office, never its numbers. Financial and family detail stays private, and the family working tools sit in a separate, password-protected family area.
